Hey folks - the adventure has begun! A very big thank you to Marg and Bill, our mom's great neighbours who went out of their way to make the Thorup Brothers our very own custom Two Brothers. One Jeep. Zero Pavement t-shirts for our trip. How cool is that? Very cool.
We left at 6:00am this morning and have made our first overnight stop on our way to Moab, Utah. We're presently in Norman, Iowa. It's 30 miles this side of Des Moines, which was our target, but with the unexpected hiccups we incurred we're glad we're here. A few of our detours and delays include, but are not limited to:
- An hour in Port Huron at Walmart getting supplies
- Marc leaving his wallet at Walmart in Port Huron (recovered)
- a lovely tour thru East Lansing, MI
- toll roads in Illinois
- Ralf experiencing a top speed of 90km/hr in his Grand Cherokee towing his amazing 87 YJ for a good portion of the trip
- more frequent stops for gas as result of his poor mileage
- cows on the road in Iowa
But, we're all here and safe and having a good time.
It's a great crew and we're looking forward to reaching our destination. Marc and I are enjoying the time and Ralf, Cameron and Sean are great guys and this is definitely going to be a fun trip.
Our plan is to leave here at 7:00am tomorrow (it's 10:45pm CT at present) and we should make Grand Junction, Colorado sometime around 8:00pm tomorrow night if all goes well. We'll update you tomorrow (if our hotel has wireless).
We'll add a pic post as well (unless Marc decides to do one tonight) and get into more detail about the adventure so far.
So stayed tuned, stay safe, and check in tomorrow for our next update.
Life is good.
The Thorup Brothers.

it is great to hear you are having a good trip .... I am following you on my maps .... take care ,be safe and have an awesome time ... LOVE Mom
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun. Marc, you might want to invest in one of those wallets with a chain, and you'll fit in with the locals better too! Or, maybe you can get your brother to hold your wallet for you (Ha Ha). Well, your gas milage should improve for the next 500 miles or so as it's as flat as a pancake for quite a while. Have fun and enjoy the scenery later today, I'm envious.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Don't worry about those frayed brake lines, I'm sure it's nothing, oh yeah, I put a down payment on a house, just in case I get full time. (kidding of course)
Take care you two.
